• Elimination of costly and hard to replace cleaning rolls or cartridges
• Elimination of the need to change messy fluid filters.
• Lower initial cost.
• Reduced space required.
• Easy pass through capabilities.
• Available in widths from 2M to 4.5M.
Re-Oiling:
• Can re-apply water soluble synthetic lubricants or oil based lubricants.
• Wide range of lubricant applications rates and blank/coil speeds using a single spray header and nozzle design.
• Eliminates the use of “air atomizing” nozzles which drastically reduces or eliminates the need for air filtering.
• Can be programmed for checker board application patterns on top and bottom surfaces.
• Can be used with low and medium viscosity lubricants.

ATLAS TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES GEN II FLEX OILER

MARCH 18, 2014
Atlas Technologies, Fenton, Michigan announced today a dramatic innovation in its line of pressroom products. The new GEN II FLEX OILER oil application unit is extremely precise and repeatable. This new system does not use air atomizing technology and puts the oil on the sheet, not in the air. Our testing indicates that secondary mist collection is not required in most applications. This benefit keeps the press area cleaner and safer.

Our press room customers are now able to “dial in” their application rate over a broad range using the same fluid pressure, nozzle spacing, and orifice size. The GEN II FLEX OILER contains the following standard features:
• Sheet metal enclosure with floor mounts.
• Carrying conveyor to support blanks through the oiler. The carrying conveyor is equipped with crown rollers for minimum blank contact.
• One heated tank section to control the temperature and viscosity of the application fluid.
• PLC based controls with operator interface screen.
• Bottom and Top fluid application over the entire blank.
• Application rates from .5G/M2 to 2.5G/M2 with line speeds from 30.5 M/Min. to 106.7 M/Min.
• Fluid filters and pumping unit.
• Available in widths from 2M to 4.5M.

Optional Features include:
• Use of water soluble synthetic lubricants. Atlas to review and test certain fluids
• Roll out floor drive
• Stainless steel construction
• Check pattern oiling, top and bottom.
• Stripe oiling top and bottom.

Custom Units Available:
• Greater or Lesser application rates than those listed above.
• Wider or more narrow units than those listed above.
• Greater or lesser line speeds that those listed above.

Most of our application data to date indicate that the use of the GEN II FLEX OILER will save money spent on fluid, Aspiration maintenance, and housekeeping. High volume stampers can experience pay back within one year.

Contact Atlas today and speak with one of our applications engineers about your situation and if it will warrant further investigation into the exciting performance of the GEN II FLEX OILER.

Atlas Technologies Refurbishes Its Original Press Cells at Whirlpool Ohio

Fenton, Michigan – Since the mid-1990s, Atlas Technologies, Inc. has supported the manufacturing operations at the Whirlpool Clyde, Ohio facility, when Whirlpool Corporation invested in new stamping systems to produce major panels for their laundry products.

At that time, Atlas Technologies was chosen to provide two (2) Atlas Flex 5000 electronic transfers to automate press operations and optimize the output of the press cells. Since then, Whirlpool has consistently maintained the equipment and consequently, these press cells continue to be the source for major panel production. Each press cell has completed approximately 65 million cycles and is still increasing.

In 2013, Whirlpool approached Atlas to develop a plan to upgrade or replace the transfers as part of a modernization program for the press cells. A detailed technical and financial evaluation led the team to conclude that employing new technology on the existing machine frames was desirable over the option to replace the units entirely.

As the mechanical integrity of the existing transfers is solid, Whirlpool’s decision to refurbish was based upon these factors:
• Major machine frames and details are being reused, reducing cost and preserving natural resources and energy.
• Rigging expenses are significantly reduced because main frames stay in place.
• All drive train and bearing surfaces are replaced and upgraded, and all electronic controls and human interfaces are replaced, providing the latest technologies in drive control, performance, and system diagnostics.

All upgrades available on a new transfer are being implemented on the refurbished transfer, including but not limited to, (a) new rail connection techniques, (b) new wireless electrical connection methods for part tracking, (c) electronic torque monitoring, and (d) new Kinetics Drives from AB/Rockwell Automation.

Atlas technicians will install and launch the refurbished transfers at the Whirlpool facility. Refurbishment costs are approximately 75% of the cost of new transfers for this remote launch.

“Our relationship with Whirlpool is more than simply that of a capital equipment supplier,” says David Kuch, Sales Account Manager at Atlas Technologies. “It’s truly a collaboration, as we continually seek innovative ways in which to respond to our customers’ technology requirements for accurate, repeatable and reliable systems while maximizing production volume and minimizing equipment operating costs.”

Quick-Die-Change Recipe

Appliance Maker Follows a Trusted Quick-Die-Change Recipe.

The largest new-appliance rollout in the history of Sub-Zero and Wolf Appliance has the firm’s pressroom and die shop on their toes. Read here of its tried and tested diechange system that keeps six hydraulic presses and three mechanicals running full speed ahead.

In 2007, the 30,000-sq.-ft. pressroom at the Sub-Zero and Wolf manufacturing plant in Fitchburg, WI, nearly doubled in production capacity. Welcomed that year: three Williams, White & Co. hydraulic presses (a 400-ton model and two 600-ton models), and a 600-ton Minster mechanical press with coil-feed line. It added the presses to support new-product introductions and to bring inhouse previously outsourced stamping work. “Those pressroom investments really strengthened our core competency in stamping and tool and die work,” says Jeff Soule, fabrication supervisor for the manufacturing facility.
