Tooling Titan for New Business Windsor, Canada – May 2007 - - Tier 1 supplier, Titan Tool & Die Limited invested in a multi-million dollar expansion three years ago for their Charles Street facility. The expansion included a brand new 2000ton transfer press, which quickly reached capacity due to the use of dedicated transfer rails.

William Beale, Operations manager for Titan said, “We needed to find ways to open up our capacity to continue our quest for additional work”. “To do that, we looked to find efficiencies in set up time.” Set up for differing production runs at Titan involved a team of die setters to install tooling, followed by skilled maintenance personnel to place and adjust the dedicated transfer rails. John Meinhardt, Tooling and Equipment Manager for Titan, discovered through research that a universal transfer rail system would provide the efficiencies necessary to increase their production capabilities. Mienhardt and his team along with the assistance of Randy Couture of Atlas Technologies, implemented the FLEX® 3000 tri-axis transfer with universal tooling rails and Atlas FLEX® 125 finger tooling. The end result increased capacity due to quicker die change, more efficient use of floor and storage space through the obsolescence of five dedicated transfer rail systems and reduced set up and preventive maintenance costs. “The Atlas transfer and universal tooling rails definitely brought immediate savings to our indirect labor costs” Meinhardt said. “By increasing capacity, our Engineering Department is now focusing their efforts on filing open press time.” Beale said, “The efficiencies of the universal rails and quick change tooling has clearly given us an advantage over other suppliers with the ability to take on overflow work from other suppliers and ramp it into Titan’s production schedule with ease”. “We currently have the capacity to take on new work and we have had a lot of interest because we are meeting our customers requirements and expectations in every way, from quality to price.” Atlas Technologies has been building powerful automation solutions for over 40 years and has installed over $1 Billion dollars in equipment worldwide. Atlas Technologies strong product offers include die change equipment, automatic storage and retrieval equipment, both conventional and robotic stacking and destacking systems, in-press transfers and turnkey stamping and fabricating systems.
